About Windansea Beach

Windansea Beach is a rocky coastline in La Jolla (with some sandy beach at low tide) that is most famous as being an early surf break when SoCal surf culture, and therefore mainland American surf culture, was in its infancy. Windansea is a lovely stretch of picturesque rocks (not a wide sandy beach) that is perfect for a picnic or watching sunset.

Park somewhere in the La Jolla neighborhood nearby and come watch surfers jostle for waves. Beware of aggressive seagulls – they will eat the food right out of your hands. The water is rough and breaks right into the rocks, so this is not a great spot for a casual swim.

Windansea is a public beach even though its location in rich La Jolla can make it feel private-ish. From the road to the ocean, it is open to all who come.
