About Liberty Public Market

If you are in Liberty Station and feeling peckish you should probably head to Liberty Public Market. This place is a food hall ala Chelsea Market in New York, that has a labyrinth of small food stalls serving any type of food you can think of, plus a big open bar and several stores selling vintage clothing and jewelry. Many local San Diego restaurants have stalls at Liberty Market.

Think Korean BBQ or a slice at Landini’s Pizzeria. Think fried catfish at Cane Patch Kitchen or a poke bowl at Chris’ Ono Grinds. Think Filipino bowls at White Rice and clothing with a purpose at Nobelrags. A lot of the stalls here started as local food trucks and their only brick and mortar spot is in Liberty Public Market. There is also a bar and beer store within the market itself (Bottle Craft), as well as a Stone Brewery beer garden outside. The place is big and chaotic and awesome, perfect for a night out as a couple or with the children to allow them to run around. Really you could spend hours eating and drinking and shopping here and you should be able to find something for everyone.

Behind The Counter

Liberty Station is an old naval base, formerly called the Naval Training Station (NTC), that shut down in 1997 and was bought by the City of San Diego in 2000. Since then, the city has worked tirelessly to make Liberty Station a community-focused sanctuary of locally-owned businesses, local art studios, and entertainment venues. It is one of the best places to visit in San Diego for restaurants, shopping, art, events, and community.

Liberty Public Market is run by the Blue Bridge Hospitality group who are responsible for several restaurants around San Diego, mostly on Coronado. Blue Bridge Hospitality is primarily run by local Coronado resident David Spatafore. He started his restaurant empire with a simple ice cream shop – Moo Time Creamery – on Coronado Island and expanded from there. Liberty Public Market features many local businesses, giving them an opportunity to access a broader market, and for that it is a great place to spend your time.
