About Muri Coffee And Cake

Muri Cafe in North Park brings authentic Kurdish coffee and culture into the fabric of San Diego, and establishes a great venue for international food and coffee in a sea of domestic cafes.

At Muri Cafe they have a traditional menu, and a Kurdish menu. On the traditional menu, you can order an excellent espresso, cortado, cappuccino, and drip coffee. On the Kurdish menu, you will find qezwan which is a caffeine free drink served hot made from the roasted and ground fruit of wild pistachio or turpentine trees, a delicious and smooth hazelnut coffee also made from turpentine fruits, an excellent selection of teas, and of course traditional Kurdish coffee. Muri cafe also serves incredible cakes and pastries from traditional Kurdish recipes. We highly recommend their apple tart, mango cakes, pistachio cakes, or any of their cheesecakes. You can also order their cakes ahead of time for an event or celebration.

The vibe in Muri Cafe is cozy, unique, and transports you to another world, ideal for deep thought or reading a book. Inside you’ll find lots of plants, warm lighting, hand made cushions, and small architectural intricacies that represent a traditional Kurdish cafe. They also have a patio outside to catch the breeze and sun. t’s a beautiful experience, and a breath of fresh air among the sea of cut-and-paste hipster cafes in the city.

Behind The Counter

Open in 2023, Muri Coffee and Cake is the manifestation of two doctoral students at UCSD who wanted to deepen their connection and impact to their community. Already coffee conniouseurs, they took their idea of Muri and ran with it, visiting Kurdistan to gather insights and experiences with locals that would shape the amazing cafe they’ve built today.

The owners have very successfully introduced an international cuisine and cafe culture that many would not know otherwise. Thanks to Muri, you can experience Kurdish coffee and culture right in San Diego.
