So you came to San Diego for a conference and your partner called you last night and said it’s over. They said they are sick of your snoring. And they never really liked your pet gecko. Or that shirt you always wear. And they met someone else who is slightly smarter than you. Well… for one, you should be thankful. You didn’t want to be with that person anyway. And for two, you’re in San Diego baby. The city is your oyster. Put on those sunglasses so nobody sees you crying and get yourself out there.

Here are some suggestions for a day of recovery and self care:

The Itinerary

1. Walk the Cliffs At Sunset Cliffs
2. Go To Wonerland Ocean Pub
3. Cry On The Beach
4. Go To The Holding Company

Walk the Cliffs At Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs is a great place to be sad. In the morning there is typically a marine layer so the sky is all grey. The cliffs are jutting and epic and stare out over a vast empty expanse (the Pacific Ocean). And there are a bunch of benches and places to sit and stare mourningly out toward the ocean. The Sunset Cliffs Natural Park also has plenty of trails to walk if that is what helps you think and process.

Go To Wonderland Ocean Pub and Have Lunch

Wonderland is a bar and restaurant in OB that has great views of the ocean and a huge seating area at the bar where people are social and chat it up. Now that you’ve had your sad time walk it is time to talk to people and be part of the world again. Wonderland is the ideal place to meet new people and practice those skills you forgot in your codependent anxious attachment style relationship you just go out of.

Cry A Bit On The Beach

Those beers got to you. It’s ok. Just don’t let anyone see you.

Go To The Holding Company

the holding company

Time to be social again. The Holding Company is an ideal place to go as a newly single person: one, because there is live music so you get to sit and watch the music without feeling pressured to talk to anyone even though you’re there alone, and two, there’s probably a bunch of other single people there. You can either sit and enjoy the vibe or mingle with the crowd. Up to you. Just get home safe. Or to someone’s home safe.
