Cat cafes in San Diego are a great way to embrace your obsession with cats – and also to convince your cat-phobic friend that cats are incredible. From the Ancient Egyptians, to modern pop culture, cat cafes are just another way to indulge these timeless, independent creatures who break and mend your heart all at the same time. They say there is nothing worth doing if you can’t do it with several dozen cats walking around. They say that somewhere.
Here is where you’ll find the best cat cafes in San Diego to quench your soul.
THE CAT CAFES
Whiskers And Wine
Located in North Park, Whiskers and Wine bar offers the purrfect combination of wine and cats. And if you’re hungry for human food a full menu is available. What sets this cafe apart is their rooftop catio (their clever words, not ours) – you get to sit outside and the cats get to feel the fresh breeze and wild urban smells and chirp at all the birds. It’s a great time.
The Cat Cafe in San Diego
Right downtown near the Embarcadero in downtown San Diego is The Cat Cafe. Serving espresso and pastries with a side of cats, this is a wonderful place to fall in love and hopefully adopt one of their feline residents. Reservations are recommended for lounge time and you can even purchase a membership. Each month they offer fun events like cat yoga. No yoga ego’s here – these cats will put you to shame with their poses and flexibility. There is an entrance fee which goes towards the cats. As it should.
Cat And Craft Cafe
A bit further north up in Vista, the Cat and Craft Cafe is another sanctuary for our fellow rescue cat, which also serves craft coffee drinks and delicious sandwiches, pastries, and paninis. Of course, these cats are also seeking a permanent home and the owners hope you’ll find cat-love here and adopt one of their rescues. Reservations are highly recommended, and yes, there is an entrance fee which goes towards the cats. They do offer quite a lot of unique events including bingo nights, paint night, yoga, cookie decorating, and even a movie night (banned movies include “Milo and Otis”).
The Cat Lounge: Rescue And Adoption Center
In beautiful La Jolla you’ll find The Cat Lounge: Rescue and Adoption Center. While this is not a cafe with coffee and food, it is a cozy, living-room style lounge where you and the cats are free to roam about and interact, scope each other out, and hopefully connect enough to adopt one of them. Since there inception, over 6000 cats have been adopted which is no small feat. Don’t be a scaredy-cat. Visit the Cat Lounge and let these cute kitties tug at your heart strings, and literal strings, because that’s what a cats do.
